Karl Marx is one of the most influential figures in philosophy, including philosophy of science, political philosophy, and theories of culture.
Ideas given classic form in the Marxist tradition: "revolutions" in history and philosophy; analyses of technologies, structures, and political theories as liberatory or oppressive; class struggle, stratification, & income inequality; the rise of nationalism & the state.
This course will explore Marx and his tradition, including:
Angela Davis, Adolph Reed, Walter Benjamin, Rosa Luxemburg, Bertolt Brecht, Boots Riley, Frantz Fanon, Levins & Lewontin, Paolo Freire, Thomas Piketty.
